The Festival 2017

The Paris Fringe festival presents shows from international and local companies working in English. There is a focus on innovative approaches and an emphasis on contemporary themes. Be it theatre, dance or comedy, the festival aims to support work that can't otherwise be found in Paris and to bring exciting art forms to a new audience across a variety of traditional and alternative venues in the city. There are also workshops, talks and events to give space to artists and audiences to interact and exchange.

18 - 28 May

Over 10 days in May the Paris Fringe will fill the 9th and 10th arrpndissements with theatre, dance, comedy, magic, poetry, song and more.

30 Shows

Our main programme has over 20 different events ranging from full shows to workshopped readings. On top of that we have the Free Fringe - mini shows in strange places that are completely free to the public.

9 Venues

The festival makes use of all types of space. Many shows are at established theatres like Les Feux de la Rampe and Théâtre Gymnase but we also make use of a school, a restaurant, a library, a gallery and other unusual locations.

Programme

We have a packed programme of shows, readings, events and discussions. This list isn't definitive as we'll be adding more right up until the last minute.

Crossroads
Crossroads is a bilingual musical about a young, French bride-to-be named Amélie, who encounters three women that help her make the biggest decision of her life - for better or for worse.

The story takes place in present day in an airport. This meeting place of grand departures and anticipated returns, a place where we can lose our way or begin a great escape, provides a meeting place for four women, each coming and going on their own journey. The delineation between French and English blurred as the women interact, we are asked to consider how we can find our own idea of “home” in this transient, jet-setting world. Accompanied by piano and guitar, scenes blend into songs as we depart on a journey through the eyes of the youngest woman, a traveler who is running away on her wedding day.

No Brakes
No Brakes explores desire, trauma, the dangers of identification and the role narration plays in postcolonial politics.

No Brakes is a solo theater performance that retraces an artistic research experience on the crisis of Syrian refugees in Jordan, theatricalizing the questions at the center of this political engagement. Personal and political desires intermingle in the chaotic flow of a dismembered corpus: bus stations and bureaucratic labyrinths; dry and empty refugee camps; hangover Ramadan days spent under the sun… how do we engage with the absolute other? How can that question become the story?
